VolunteersIf you are interested in becoming a volunteer as an Archivist, Museum Guide, Hostess, or a volunteer for special projects please contact: Judy Mickelson, 434.589.7910. You will have an opportunity to be involved in helping to preserve history and work with so many interested and dedicated people. Old Stone Jail Museum Guides and Holland Page Place Museum Guides: Guides will be trained and given an opportunity to choose their schedules. Guides work during the museum season May- October and are sometimes asked to assist with special visiting groups or school groups throughout the year. Archivists: Archivists are trained by our Archive Director to assist with all types of research and queries on Fluvanna history genealogy, historic sites and homes, schools, transportation, rivers, mills and more. Archivists are trained to observe conservation criteria for the preservation and handling of these archival documents for future generations. Workshops are held for volunteers and guest conservationists are invited to share their expertise with volunteers. Maggie’s House is open for research year round, three days a week – Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1:00 – 4:00 pm . Volunteers are asked to commit to a 3 hour period one or two days a month. Hostess: Hostesses greet museum visitors, introduce them to Maggie’s House, the Society’s headquarters, and arrange for their tour with the museum guides. Hostesses serve 3-6 hours during the Museum season May-October. Special Projects: Volunteers also assist with special projects; such as special events, museum artifact cataloging, oral and video histories, archaeology research, publications, buildings and grounds, and Old Farm Day, please contact: Judy Mickelson, 434.589.7910. Volunteers enjoy one to two special Appreciation trips a year to historic sites in and around central Virginia, hosted by the Society, in gratitude for their service. Please Join Our Team! |
